Polymarket Eyes $400M Fundraising at $15B Valuation

Polymarket is reportedly considering a fundraising round of $400 million, aiming for a valuation of $15 billion. This comes on the heels of a recent $600 million funding boost, as reported by Bloomberg.

This potential fundraising would follow a remarkable increase in the company's valuation, which surged from $1 billion in June last year to $9 billion later that year, culminating in the $600 million raised in March 2026. If successful, this latest round would elevate Polymarket's valuation to $15 billion.

Despite this impressive growth, Polymarket still trails behind its competitor, Kalshi Inc., which recently achieved a valuation of $22 billion after a $1 billion fundraising effort. Notable investors in Polymarket include Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund and the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), alongside a venture capital firm linked to Donald Trump Jr.

The discussions surrounding funding come at a time of heightened activity on Polymarket's platform, which has reported over $1 billion in weekly trading volume. In March, the notional trading volume soared to $10.6 billion, a sixfold increase compared to six months prior, as per user-generated data from Dune Analytics.

Polymarket allows users to trade on event outcomes by buying and selling shares tied to specific results, such as elections, geopolitical events, and sports. The platform earns revenue through commissions on certain trades, with a variable fee structure, while stating that markets related to geopolitical events are “fee-free.”

Recently, Polymarket attracted attention for contracts linked to Middle Eastern developments, including bets on the timing of US-Israel strikes against Iran and the potential for a US-Iran ceasefire, some of which raised concerns of insider trading.

The platform also features markets on various topics, including the possible resignation date of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the second coming of Jesus Christ, and election outcomes in several countries.

The latest funding from ICE follows the exchange group's announcement last year of plans to invest up to $2 billion in Polymarket.

ICE has indicated it will function as a “global distributor” of Polymarket data, utilizing platform activity to provide “sentiment analysis” for investors. Data from prediction markets is increasingly leveraged to guide trading strategies, including in the oil sector.

Proponents of prediction markets argue they offer a “truth signal” by linking financial incentives to forecasts. However, some analysts warn that the actions of a small number of users could skew implied probabilities, potentially impacting external markets that depend on this data.

Polymarket operates an international exchange that is not accessible to US customers while testing a new application aimed at the US market. However, the regulatory landscape remains contentious.

Several state gaming regulators contend that prediction markets should be subject to state gambling laws and have pursued legal action to shut them down. Conversely, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission asserts that these exchanges fall under its federal jurisdiction and can operate nationwide.

The trading activity on Polymarket has caught the attention of authorities and online communities. Earlier this year, Israeli authorities arrested several individuals, charging two with using classified information to place bets on Polymarket.

An investigation by The Guardian revealed that numerous individuals in online communities on Discord are strategizing on how to profit from conflicts by betting on Ukraine’s frontlines, placing arbitrage wagers on geopolitical events, and sometimes mirroring the bets of what appear to be insider wallets.

The investigation also uncovered that some Polymarket users seemed willing to pressure independent institutions, including media outlets and think tanks, to alter their reporting to secure betting wins. In one case, Polymarket traders reportedly threatened an Israeli journalist, demanding changes in coverage.
