New Hampshire and Arizona are taking significant steps to address problem gambling and promote responsible gaming among their residents. Arizona has introduced a new training program focused on responsible gaming, while New Hampshire has established a dedicated council to tackle gambling-related issues.
In Arizona, the Department of Gaming (ADG) has launched a free, self-paced Responsible Gaming Training initiative. This program aims to educate participants on the fundamental principles of responsible gambling, including the risks involved and the distinction between healthy play and problem gambling. A recent study commissioned by the ADG revealed that approximately 3-4% of Arizonans aged 21 and older are affected by gambling disorders.
Jessica Roza, the ADG's Assistant Director of Government and Community Affairs, emphasized that this initiative is designed to foster a sustainable gaming environment. She expressed enthusiasm about sharing resources that enhance understanding and skills related to responsible gaming, ultimately improving community interactions.
The training consists of a three-hour online course divided into three phases, complete with optional quizzes at the end of each section. Participants can pause and resume the training at their convenience. Roza noted that responsible gaming education has been vital for gaming industry employees and is now being expanded to a broader audience, including those outside the gambling sector.
To further engage the community, the ADG is hosting a live virtual webinar on April 28, 2026, at 10 a.m. MST, where interested individuals can learn more about the training and ask questions.
Meanwhile, New Hampshire has responded to the rapid growth of its gambling industry by launching the New Hampshire Council for Responsible Gaming (NHCRG). The council aims to address the gambling problems that have arisen alongside the state's commercial gambling expansion, which has generated significant tax revenue from its 13 casinos.
