Boyd Gaming has officially opened its Cadence Crossing Casino in Henderson, marking the company's first new venture in twenty years as it aims to capitalize on the growth of a rapidly developing residential area.
This new casino, which focuses on local patrons, opened ahead of schedule and is designed to attract former visitors of the now-closed Jokers Wild venue, as well as residents from the nearby Cadence master-planned community.
Spanning 50,000 square feet, the casino features a 10,000-square-foot gaming area equipped with 450 slot machines, although it does not offer live table games. Instead, guests can enjoy electronic versions of popular games like blackjack, craps, and roulette. The venue also includes dining options such as Tacos Los Gauchos and Tin Lizard Bar and Grill.
David Strow, Vice President of Corporate Communications, stated, “What locals are looking for is not just great quality, but they are looking for great value. So we are going to offer that here at Cadence Crossing.”
The casino was constructed in less than a year following its groundbreaking in April and is part of a larger $100 million capital expenditure plan by the company.
Boyd executives noted that the development reflects the evolving nature of the surrounding neighborhood, where population growth and infrastructure investments have surged in recent years.
Strow commented, “We are upping our game here, right? Joker’s Wild did very well for us for about 30 years, but this neighborhood has evolved.”
The company intends to demolish the Jokers Wild property and convert it into parking space, while keeping the door open for potential future expansions.
“If this property is successful, and we hope it is, we have the option to add a hotel, more casino space, and additional restaurants. That, potentially, could be on the table,” Strow added.
Steve Schutte, Boyd's Executive Vice President of Operations, described the opening as a significant first step in a larger development strategy. “As excited as we are to get our doors open today, this is just the first step toward our ultimate vision for Cadence Crossing,” Schutte expressed. “We’ve got a lot of land to use here, and we plan to use it as the city and Cadence community continue to grow.”
The launch attracted considerable early interest, especially from loyal customers of Jokers Wild, many of whom were delighted to see familiar staff members at the new facility.
Employee Liz McCrary remarked, “All our Joker’s family can join us at Cadence Crossing. It is amazing because we had been there for so long and they kept all the employees.”
Analysts have indicated that the location along Boulder Highway is benefiting from broader development trends. “It is one of the most dynamic corridors that we are seeing in terms of development and investment and families and individuals moving in,” stated Jeremy Aguero, Principal at Applied Analysis, in a discussion with News 3 last December.
