BIS SiGMA South America 2026 Wraps Up with Focus on Innovation

The BIS SiGMA South America 2026 event concluded on Thursday in São Paulo, centering on technological advancements, the significance of lotteries, and the future of the betting industry in Brazil and Latin America.

Over three days, stakeholders including operators, regulators, investors, and tech firms engaged in discussions, culminating in a final day that highlighted key insights. The event illustrated a sector transitioning from the initial regulatory phase established a year prior into a more mature market cycle.

Hosted at the Transamerica Expo Center, the event attracted 15,800 attendees, underscoring the global interest in Brazil's market, which is characterized by its size, high digital engagement, and robust sports culture.

Innovation took center stage on the last day, with discussions revolving around the impact of artificial intelligence, data analytics, and automation in reshaping the industry.

Panels emphasized that as a regulatory framework solidifies, the focus of competition will shift towards innovation. Key strategic priorities for the upcoming years include tools for personalizing user experiences, fraud prevention, and operational efficiency.

Experts pointed out that enhanced data utilization will allow companies to gain deeper insights into consumer behavior, facilitating the development of tailored products and improved customer journeys.

Technology was also highlighted as crucial for maintaining integrity and security, especially in a rapidly evolving market that demands increased control and transparency.

Another significant topic was the role of lotteries in the betting ecosystem. Discussions underscored lotteries as vital for generating public revenue and supporting social initiatives.

Panels evaluated Brazil's federal model as a potential catalyst for economic growth, while also considering modernization through digitalization. The conversation heavily focused on the regulations and limitations imposed on lotteries over the past year.

Fabíola Esteves, President of LOTERJ (Rio de Janeiro State Lottery), remarked, “There has been an encroachment on competencies. The federal government has overridden state lotteries. It is crucial that we uphold our autonomy and capabilities.”

This sentiment was echoed by Onésimo Diniz, Director-General of the Minas Gerais State Lottery, who stated, “The key takeaway should be ‘unity’ for strengthening our position. Together with the press, legal experts, businesses, and the entire gaming ecosystem, we can ensure that any attempts to undermine our autonomy are merely illusions.”

The integration of lotteries with digital platforms emerged as a significant trend, offering opportunities to broaden reach and attract new consumer demographics.

Experts also noted that bolstering this segment could aid in market diversification, decreasing reliance on traditional sports betting.

The Brazilian market is expected to become increasingly competitive, necessitating that companies demonstrate greater adaptability and differentiation, particularly in technology, user experience, and brand identity.

Latin America as a whole was recognized as a strategic area, with various countries progressing through different regulatory phases while encountering similar challenges, such as tackling illegal activities and establishing sustainable tax structures.

In this landscape, Brazil is distinguished as a regional leader due to its market size and the rapid pace of sector development.

The 2026 edition concluded with the next event already scheduled. BIS SiGMA South America 2027 is set for April 5-8, 2027.
