The VNLOK association of licensed iGaming operators in the Netherlands has filed a lawsuit against Meta. The complaint centers around the spread of illegal gambling advertisements targeting local users on Facebook and Instagram.
According to reports from CasinoNieuws, VNLOK is asking the court to recognize that Meta is not complying with the European Digital Services Act. The association is also seeking to compel the company to block such advertisements before they are published.
Previously, VNLOK published an analysis indicating that up to 98.8% of gambling ads on Facebook were placed by unlicensed operators. Furthermore, the share of removed Meta ads was only between 11-15%. VNLOK's chairman stated that the association has repeatedly requested Meta to address this issue, but these efforts have not yielded sufficient results.
