In Bobruisk, Belarus, a bank employee has been sentenced to five years in a general regime colony for embezzling over $190,000 from December 2023 to January 2026. The funds were intended for participation in an instant online lottery.
The Bobruisk District Court found the accused guilty of misappropriating entrusted property on a particularly large scale. According to the Mogilev region prosecutor's office, the employee had been inserting pieces of paper and cardboard into bundles of cash while stealing the actual banknotes.
An expert conclusion revealed that during the period of the crime, the woman was suffering from gambling addiction. In addition to her prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of 200 basic units (approximately $3,300) and banned her from holding positions related to the accounting, storage, and management of material assets for five years.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and is subject to appeal.
