A recent study presented by Tiange Xu, a postdoctoral researcher at the International Gaming Institute (UNLV), at the ICGRT 2026 conference, reveals that 80% of YouTube vlogs about slot machines center around strategies and game mechanics.

Xu analyzed 170 popular videos from 17 channels and 43,837 comments using thematic modeling, sentiment analysis, and binary logistic regression. Here are the key findings highlighted by iGN:

Themes of Vlogs:
40.6% focus on game strategies (69 videos)
39.4% discuss game mechanics and features (67)
14.1% showcase real-time reactions to gameplay (24)
5.9% involve audience interaction (10)

Responsible Gaming:
90.59% of videos made no mention of responsible gaming (154 videos)
9.41% included messages about responsible gaming (16)
13 videos contained implicit messages
3 videos had explicit messages

Comment Sentiment:
59.81% of comments were neutral (26,219)
36.17% were positive (15,854)
4.02% were negative (1,764)

Conclusions:
Videos with responsible gaming messages had a 5.45 times higher chance of receiving a greater proportion of comments per view.
They also had a 3.76 times higher chance of receiving more likes per view.

According to Xu, the correlation between responsible gaming messages and viewer engagement does not imply causation. He suggests two interpretations: either such messages attract viewers who value safe gaming, or they are more frequently used by channels with already high engagement as their audience grows. Xu advises content creators to test the inclusion of such messages and track viewer reactions.

It is important to note that the sample only covers English-language videos from popular channels and analyzes text transcriptions of videos and comments without considering the video content itself.
