On August 27, Brazil's self-regulatory advertising council, CONAR, prohibited children's content in betting advertisements and introduced an influencer accreditation program. This decision comes with an updated application of the advertising code and a new set of rules for betting promotions.
CONAR published the official documents on August 28, stating that the new regulations will come into effect in 30 days. However, the organization has urged operators, agencies, influencers, and affiliates to start adapting their campaigns immediately.
The update removes elements appealing to children and teenagers from betting advertisements, particularly the use of anthropomorphized animals. Operators will only be able to use such content on their own channels with age-filtering mechanisms in place.
CONAR has recommended that campaign managers maintain a registry of measures that confirm the advertising is aimed solely at an adult audience. They have also set criteria for issuing warnings about risks, while maintaining a minimum age requirement of 21 for both the actual age and the portrayal of characters in advertisements.
