The Nederlandse Loterij (NLO), the state lottery of the Netherlands, announced on September 1 that it has issued a pre-trial demand to companies and directors behind the illegal iGaming operator Skyhills to cease operations in the country.
The organization claims these parties are responsible for the damages incurred and is seeking disclosure of the corporate structure of the brand for further legal actions. It has been noted that the involved companies and individuals are based in Costa Rica, North Macedonia, the UK, Curaçao, Malta, and the Marshall Islands.
According to NLO, Skyhills targeted advertising, including on TikTok, at local players, particularly the youth. The operator's website has already become inaccessible in the Netherlands.
Skyhills is the third illegal operator involved in NLO's legal campaign, following Lalabet and Qbet, with proceedings expected to conclude by the end of 2026. In June, a court almost fully satisfied the lottery's claims against Lalabet but refused to hold the trust office DECC accountable, finding insufficient evidence of its awareness of the client's illegal activities. NLO intends to appeal this part of the decision, citing the obligation of trusts to verify clients and DECC's involvement with both Qbet and Skyhills.
