A 39-year-old caregiver from Leeds, UK, has pleaded guilty to fraud after spending over £7,000 ($9,400) from her patient's card on online gambling, Amazon purchases, and food delivery. The incident was reported by GB News.
According to the prosecutor in Leeds Magistrates' Court, the patient required round-the-clock care and was unable to leave her home to withdraw cash. As a result, she entrusted her caregiver with her card and PIN for necessary purchases.
Out of the total amount, £5,000 ($6,700) was spent on online gambling with unnamed operators and Amazon purchases, while over £2,000 ($2,700) went towards food deliveries via Deliveroo. The bank noticed suspicious transactions in October 2024.
At the time of the fraudulent activities, the defendant was employed by the Be Kind patronage service.
