Ontario's regulated iGaming sector achieved remarkable milestones in July 2026, with residents placing bets totaling CAD 9.88 billion (approximately US$7.1 billion) throughout the month. This figure surpassed the previous record of CAD 9.59 billion set in March by nearly CAD 300 million, according to iGaming Ontario (iGO).
The total wagered in July represented a 31% increase compared to July 2025 and marked the highest monthly betting amount since the province launched its regulated iGaming market in April 2022.
Operators reported a gross gaming revenue (GGR) of CAD 413.6 million (US$297.1 million) for July, making it the second-highest monthly GGR recorded, only behind the CAD 426 million from December 2025. This amount reflects a 33% year-over-year increase.
With a 20% tax rate on operator revenues, Ontario generated approximately CAD 83 million in tax revenue for the month. Over the first seven months of 2026, the province collected around CAD 553 million in taxes from a total non-adjusted GGR of CAD 2.76 billion.
Active player accounts also reached a new high, nearing 1.37 million, which is a 44% increase from the 948,000 active accounts in July 2025 and a 3.5% rise from June 2026.
During the month, Ontario's commercial iGaming market featured 48 licensed operators across 83 platforms. Additionally, two significant brands made their debut: DAZN Bet launched on June 30, and Hard Rock Bet entered the market with its sportsbook and casino on July 22.
Despite the surge in active accounts, the average revenue per account decreased by 7.6% year-over-year to CAD 303, marking the lowest level since February 2026, when it stood at CAD 262.
Online casinos continued to lead Ontario's iGaming landscape, accounting for the majority of both wagering and revenue. iCasino wagers hit a record CAD 8.78 billion, up 30% from July 2025, surpassing the previous high of CAD 8.37 billion set in May. Casino wagers constituted 89% of the total handle for July.
Online casino GGR also reached a record high of CAD 330.4 million, a 31% year-over-year increase, exceeding May's previous record. Casino revenue made up 80% of the total GGR in July.
Sports betting saw CAD 992 million in wagers, falling short of the $1 billion mark during the typical summer lull. Nonetheless, this figure was still 44% higher than in July 2025, which lacked FIFA World Cup activity.
The stronger sports betting figures in June were likely bolstered by the early matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including Canada's first four games. Canada was eliminated from the tournament after a 3-0 loss to Morocco in the round of 16 on July 4.
Sports betting GGR reached CAD 77.8 million, a 47% increase year-over-year, but it marked the lowest monthly level since March 2026. Sports wagers accounted for 10% of the total handle and 19% of operators' GGR.
Peer-to-peer poker remained a minor segment of Ontario's regulated market, representing about 1% of total handle and GGR, with both poker wagering and revenue declining by over 10% year-over-year.
It's important to note that iGO's statistics do not include activities from the government-operated Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) platform, which releases its results on an annual basis.
