In Russia, former NHL player Nikita Filatov is being sought by bailiffs for failing to repay a debt of 5.4 million rubles (approximately $69,000) related to gambling. According to the Telegram channel Baza, Filatov borrowed 3.5 million rubles (around $45,000) from an acquaintance two years ago, claiming he had access to information about fixed matches.
The former hockey player promised in writing to return the amount with interest within six months. However, he only transferred 100,000 rubles (about $1,300) by the deadline and then ceased all communication.
The creditor took the matter to court and won, resulting in the debt, including interest and enforcement fees, ballooning to 5.4 million rubles. The creditor's lawyer stated that his client is not the only victim of Filatov's gambling habits. In a previous interview, Filatov admitted to having debts due to his gambling and casino addiction.
Following the court's decision, Filatov allegedly has not repaid the debt, yet continues to travel abroad and run his own television show, where he recently interviewed Alexander Ovechkin.
