NFL Urges Prediction Markets to Eliminate Risky Bets

The NFL has once again urged prediction markets to withdraw certain sports contracts that it views as potential threats to the integrity of the game. In a letter dated September 3, Chief Compliance Officer Sabrina Perel reiterated the league's earlier warnings regarding contracts that could be easily manipulated or involve sensitive topics.

Perel's correspondence comes ahead of the 2026 NFL season, emphasizing the league's commitment to maintaining fair competition. She expressed concern that objectionable bets identified months ago are still being offered on various exchanges.

The NFL specifically categorized these objectionable bets into four groups: those easily manipulated by individuals, inherently objectionable subjects like player injuries, officiating-related bets, and contracts based on information known beforehand.

Perel highlighted the risks these bets pose not only to players and coaches but also to the integrity of the games themselves. She stated, “Continuing to list these objectionable contracts threatens the underlying integrity of our games and creates significant risks for our players, coaches, and officials.”

In response to the NFL's concerns, Kalshi, a prediction market platform, has already taken steps to remove some of the flagged markets, including those related to athlete injuries and player availability, following a request from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
