On July 2, the Dutch regulator KSA updated its guidelines for conducting player affordability checks following control audits of 20 licensees. The regulator has taken action against several operators, including ten explanatory discussions, three warnings, and one mandatory order. Notably, many licensees have already improved their operations following the initial version of the recommendations.
The updated guidelines clarify that a player's liquid assets, including savings, cannot be considered during the assessment. Instead, the evaluation must rely solely on the player's regular income. The previous wording had caused confusion among operators regarding the inclusion of player savings.
Starting from October 2024, affordability checks will be mandatory for net deposits (deposits minus withdrawals) exceeding €300 per month for players aged 18-24 and €700 for older players.
