The government of Mozambique has officially approved regulations for organizing and conducting gambling through electronic and computer means on July 14, as reported by the Lusa agency.
This document marks the first time that online gambling has been recognized as a separate segment with its own legal framework and licensing, independent from the licenses of land-based casinos.
In 2025, the country's land-based casinos paid $5.6 million in taxes, which accounted for only 54% of the planned $10.4 million and was 7.3% lower than the figures from 2024. The Ministry of Finance attributed this shortfall in the budget execution report to a significant increase in online gambling, which has reduced the foot traffic to casinos.
