The Major League Soccer (MLS) has permanently banned midfielder Derrick Jones, formerly of Columbus Crew, and winger Yo Yeboah, previously with Los Angeles FC, for betting on football matches, including games involving their own teams in the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
During the investigation, it was confirmed that both players, while still teammates at Columbus Crew, placed bets on Jones receiving a yellow card in a match on October 19, 2024. Jones indeed received the card during the game.
Furthermore, the investigation revealed that the players allegedly shared confidential information regarding their intentions to receive cards with third parties. However, no evidence was found to suggest that they influenced the outcomes of any matches.
The disqualification applies solely to MLS. Yeboah is currently playing for Chinese club Qingdao Hainiu, while Jones remains a free agent.
