The Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) has granted a four-year extension for the license of Hard Rock Casino Rockford during its recent meeting in April. This extension is retroactive to January 2026.
Hard Rock Casino Rockford was the first casino to open under Illinois’ gaming expansion law enacted in 2019, commencing operations on November 10, 2021, as the state’s 11th casino. Initially, it operated from a temporary venue before transitioning to its permanent site in August 2024.
During the meeting, the board also approved various licensing and regulatory measures. These included renewals for casino suppliers, video gaming licenses, and approvals for sports betting, along with enforcement actions across different sectors. IGB Administrator Marcus D. Fruchter reminded all licensees involved in casino operations, video gaming, and sports betting of their responsibilities under the updated advertising and marketing regulations that were implemented last year.
Fruchter emphasized the recent changes to the Video Gaming Act, which impose restrictions on specific types of outdoor advertising at licensed video gaming locations. This includes movable flags, banners, and temporary signs, which are prohibited for 90 days following the issuance of a location license.
“The IGB is serious about the advertising and marketing requirements and expects compliance from both licensees and applicants,” he stated. “Any violations could lead to disciplinary measures against licensees.”
The board reviewed and made decisions on several applications, including approvals related to casino operations.
The next regular meeting of the board is set for June 11, 2026. Currently, Illinois boasts 17 casinos, with 15 active and approved sportsbooks, alongside nearly 9,000 licensed video gaming establishments.
