The president of the Fenerbahce football club, Sadettin Saran, has been sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison for inciting illegal betting activities. This ruling was made by a Turkish court following an investigation that revealed advertisements for illegal bookmakers were broadcast during football match streams on the S Sport platform, which is part of Saran's media group.
On June 4, the Istanbul court also handed the same sentence to Saran's brother, Kenan. Both were fined $12,200, while two other defendants were acquitted. Saran did not attend the hearing, and his defense team argued for acquittal, while a representative from the Turkish Football Federation called for punishment. The ruling has been issued by a first-instance court and can be appealed.
