Poland's BLIK Blocks Transactions for Illegal iGaming Operators

On September 1, Poland's most popular payment system, BLIK, began blocking transactions in favor of illegal iGaming operators. The system automatically checks the payment domain against a registry of illegal gambling sites maintained by the Ministry of Finance, which lists over 55,000 domains. Transactions are halted before authorization if a match is found.

The blocking measures apply to payments made through both Polish and foreign acquirers. According to the vice president of the payment system operator, Polski Standard Płatności, some websites operate legally in their country of registration but are not authorized to offer services in Poland. As a result, the company has implemented an additional mechanism to address this issue, although the law primarily places such responsibilities on the payment service providers themselves.
