Indian Gaming Association Launches 2026 Tradeshow Focused on Challenges

The Indian Gaming Association (IGA) kicked off its 2026 Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention on Monday, concentrating on a critical issue currently affecting tribal gaming: the emergence of prediction markets.

The event included various workshops and panel discussions aimed at educating and uniting tribal leaders, regulators, and industry stakeholders. During these sessions, the IGA highlighted the dangers associated with event contracts that fall under the oversight of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

A key session titled "Prediction Markets: Building the Coalition for the Fight Ahead" was led by moderator Victor Rocha, featuring panelists such as James Siva, Chairman of the California Nations Indian Gaming Association, and David Z. Bean, Chairman of the Indian Gaming Association. This discussion focused on how tribes can broaden their advocacy efforts beyond Indian Country by collaborating with states, attorneys general, regulators, and supportive organizations.

Speakers throughout the day stressed that the implications of this issue reach beyond gaming, touching on consumer protection, regulatory authority, and the safeguarding of both tribal and state sovereignty.

Chairman David Z. Bean concluded the day's events with a powerful call to action, emphasizing the necessity for collective advocacy. "This is larger than just Indian gaming. It concerns the integrity of our industry, tribal sovereignty, and state sovereignty," he stated. "What we are witnessing now affects us all."

Bean pointed out that the absence of federal regulatory action has fostered an environment where illegal gambling activities can flourish without oversight. "Their inaction sends a message that our laws, operations, and sovereignty are insignificant," he cautioned. "This is something we cannot and will not tolerate."

He highlighted that tribes are not alone in this struggle, noting an increasing alignment with states, industry organizations, and policymakers. "It is crucial for us to forge a coalition of partners who share our interests in maintaining lawful markets and regulatory authority. We cannot tackle this challenge in isolation, as it impacts more than just tribes," Bean remarked.

Additionally, Bean mentioned that tribes are actively exploring both legal and legislative avenues to confront the issue. "We are pursuing a dual approach through litigation and legislation, preparing to defend our rights and uphold the law," he explained.

He also emphasized the need for outreach and awareness efforts across Indian Country and beyond. "Many communities remain unaware of the current situation. It is our duty to educate, inform, and ensure that every tribal leader comprehends what is at stake," he added.

The Indian Gaming Association stated that the first day of the convention established a tone of unity, awareness, and readiness among its member tribes. "We must be assertive in our stance. This is not about choosing between interests; it is about adhering to the law versus disregarding it," Bean concluded.
