25 Foreign iGaming Operators Register in Chile Amid VAT Threat

In Chile, 25 foreign iGaming operators have registered with the tax authority under the threat of a 19% VAT withholding.

The Chilean tax authority, SII, has published lists of online operators that have registered to pay the 19% digital VAT, as well as those that remain unregistered. Operators rushed to register on July 14-15 after SII warned that starting July 15, payment processors would begin withholding VAT from every transaction made by users on unregistered sites.

The list of unregistered operators and the procedure for withholding taxes are established in SII resolution 94. Payment operators will transfer the tax to the budget monthly. The SII identifies foreign operators targeting the Chilean audience based on data from debit, credit, and prepaid cards.
