The Royal Thai Police have launched a significant operation against illegal betting related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. From June 6 to July 19, authorities shut down 4,576 websites operated by illegal iGaming operators, detaining 617 individuals involved in organizing bets and arresting 8,181 players.
In July alone, police apprehended 325 people linked to 137 iGaming sites, each with a turnover exceeding $297,000. The total number of blocked URLs has now reached 557,924.
Currently, the agency is collaborating with the Bank of Thailand to cut off financial flows to illegal operators and is preparing to establish an Anti-Online Gambling Center (AOGC). Additionally, the deputy police chief has instructed an investigation into influencers promoting online gambling.
