Sportradar's 2026 Forecast Lowered Due to Delayed Prediction Markets

Sportradar, a prominent player in sports technology, has adjusted its financial outlook for 2026, citing delays in securing agreements for prediction markets as a significant factor. However, the company remains optimistic about this emerging sector, predicting it will become a key driver of growth.

During their second-quarter earnings call, Sportradar executives emphasized the potential of prediction markets, forecasting revenues in the range of “tens of millions” of euros for this year and even higher figures for 2027. Despite a reported 19% increase in revenue and new partnerships with Kalshi and Polymarket, the management acknowledged that negotiations with leagues and other stakeholders took longer than anticipated, leading to a revision of their full-year financial guidance.

CEO Carsten Koerl elaborated on the potential of prediction markets, stating that the sector is expected to generate significant revenue, particularly as Sportradar works to secure necessary approvals from sports leagues. He expressed confidence that the company is establishing the right framework for these partnerships.

CFO Craig Felenstein pointed out that the delays in agreements were a primary reason for the lowered guidance, but he remains positive about the long-term prospects of prediction markets. Additionally, executives dismissed concerns regarding the cannibalization of traditional sportsbooks, noting that their clients have reported minimal shifts in customer behavior.

Koerl highlighted that most revenue from prediction markets is generated in states like California, Texas, and Florida, where legal sports betting options are limited or nonexistent.

In conjunction with its financial projections, Sportradar is also pursuing a broader strategy to position itself as an infrastructure provider within the prediction market ecosystem. The company has secured multi-year contracts with Kalshi and Polymarket, supplying them with essential services such as official sports data, live odds, streaming, and customer engagement tools.

These agreements enable Sportradar to collaborate with partners of the exchanges, including brokers and market makers, creating additional revenue streams beyond the exchanges themselves. Koerl mentioned that Sportradar is actively engaging with various stakeholders in the sector and anticipates announcing further commercial agreements soon.

Moreover, the company is working on developing ultra-low-latency data feeds for market makers, emphasizing the importance of speed and comprehensive data in this sector. A dedicated low-latency feed is expected to be launched alongside the U.S. Open and the beginning of the NBA season.

Lastly, Sportradar is also expanding its PlayRadar platform, aiming to integrate sports betting with online casino gaming, further diversifying its offerings in the iGaming landscape.
