In South Korea, cyber police have arrested 58 individuals in connection with the management of an unnamed iGaming operator, which was operating under the guise of the state-owned casino Kangwon Land.
Among those arrested, five individuals, including a citizen of the Russian Federation, have been detained. The police have identified him as the leader of the Korean branch of the criminal group. The remaining 53 suspects, mostly foreign nationals of Russian descent residing in Korea, are under investigation but have not been arrested.
According to the police, the group operated from October 2022 to August 2025 through an iGaming website with an unnamed foreign gambling license. They promoted this site on Korean social media, using the branding of Kangwon Land and deepfake videos featuring the faces and voices of well-known athletes.
Investigators report that the number of registered Korean users on the site reached approximately 40,000, with total deposits amounting to $55.2 million. To facilitate transactions, the group utilized over 70 shell accounts, changing them monthly. The court has fully granted the request for the confiscation of $1.06 million in criminal proceeds.
