Romania's Anti-Corruption Agency Arrests Gaming Regulator Officials

On July 29, Romania's National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) arrested Anu-Maria Badya, the deputy head of the licensing department of the gambling regulator ONJN, on charges of corruption.

Alongside her, two inspectors from ONJN, her husband, and an administrator from an unnamed commercial company have been placed under judicial control for 60 days. The administrator is accused of bribing the inspectors.

According to the investigation, from December 2025 to May 2026, Badya received €2,500 directly and through her husband from a representative of several gambling companies in exchange for expedited and favorable consideration of applications for new games and re-registration with ONJN.

The ONJN inspectors are alleged to have received bribes in six instances, totaling approximately €4,900, from various operators under review to overlook identified violations between September 2025 and May 2026.
