The city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil has officially banned outdoor advertising for betting across the entire city. This decree applies to advertisements for online bookmakers and any similar services related to sports and other online betting in outdoor formats and public spaces.

The ban includes brands, logos, mascots, slogans, websites, applications, bonuses, and promotions. It also extends to advertising at events that are visible from outside, as well as campaigns and events organized by the city itself.

Violators, including advertisers and owners of advertising structures, face penalties such as fines, revocation of permits, and immediate dismantling of the advertisements. The decree came into effect on July 13, allowing a 10-day grace period for the voluntary cessation of existing advertisements without penalties.

The justification for this ban refers to the detrimental effects of excessive betting advertising on the mental health of the population, particularly children and adolescents. The decree classifies betting advertisements as offensive to moral and social norms.
