A postal worker in Slonim, Belarus, has been sentenced for embezzling over $7,700, which she spent at an unnamed online casino. The Investigative Committee reported that the Slonim District Court found her guilty of misappropriating property on a large scale.
The 29-year-old employee, who was responsible for financial transactions, accepted payments for goods without recording them in the cash register or issuing receipts. She deleted the records of the sales and kept the revenue for herself. To conceal the discrepancies during audits, she provided false information to the commission.
The scheme was uncovered when she attempted to apply for a social benefit for burial expenses that were meant for another employee. She has fully reimbursed the damages and accepted the charges against her.
