Vietnam Police Bust Three Illegal Online Betting Networks

The police in Vietnam have dismantled three illegal online betting networks operating in Can Tho, Ninh Binh, and Da Nang, with a total turnover of approximately $75 million. Some of these networks were reportedly accepting bets on the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup matches.

At least 20 suspects have been detained, and authorities seized 45 pieces of digital equipment along with nearly 12,000 pages of documentation.

In Can Tho, law enforcement shut down a network that was taking bets on lottery outcomes and football matches, with preliminary estimates suggesting a turnover exceeding $37.6 million. Thirteen individuals were arrested, and another 26 have been summoned for questioning.

In Ninh Binh and Da Nang, police dismantled structures operating under a multi-level betting scheme, where the operator's main account was split into sub-accounts distributed to players. The first network's turnover is estimated to be over $33.8 million, including around $13.2 million on 2026 World Cup matches. The second network reportedly processed over $752,000 during the tournament month. Seven individuals have been detained in connection with these two cases, including two suspected organizers, while one more suspect remains at large.
