New York Sportsbooks Report $214.4M Revenue in July

In July, New York's eight online sportsbooks achieved a remarkable gross gaming revenue of $214.4 million, as reported by the New York Gaming Commission on Friday.

This revenue was generated from a total handle of $1.88 billion, resulting in a hold of 11.4%, which is significantly higher than the 5.19% recorded in June.

While June saw a record handle of $2.25 billion, the revenue for that month was only $116.8 million due to the lower hold. In contrast, July's handle decreased by approximately $376 million, or 16.7%, compared to June, yet revenue surged by about 83.5% as sportsbooks retained a larger portion of the wagers.

Six out of the eight sportsbooks in the state reported an increase in revenue month-over-month, and year-over-year revenue rose by 37.8%. The hold in July also brought the market back to levels observed from January to May, where monthly holds were consistently above 8% before the drop in June.

The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in North America, has spurred increased betting activity during a month that typically experiences a lull once major sports seasons conclude.

Year-over-year, New York's July handle increased by 34.3%, building on a 36.6% rise in June. Together, the two months associated with the World Cup generated a staggering $4.1 billion in wagers.

Favorable outcomes on the three-way moneyline, including Spain's victory over Argentina in the final, contributed to the higher hold. Even though July's handle dipped below $2 billion for the first time in nearly a year, it still exceeded the $1.40 billion recorded in July 2025 and the $1.26 billion from July 2024.

New York imposes a 51% tax on mobile sports betting revenue, with the majority of the funds allocated to education and additional support for youth sports and problem gambling initiatives. The state collected around $109.3 million in taxes from July's results, a significant increase from June's $59.6 million, effectively reversing much of June's decline.

Year-to-date tax revenue has now surpassed $725 million, following the $1.32 billion collected in 2025.

DraftKings led the online operators for the second consecutive July, handling $661.5 million in bets. Its 11% hold resulted in $72.9 million in gross revenue, the second-highest in the state. FanDuel reported the highest gross revenue at $86.1 million, doubling its June figure, from a $651.2 million handle and a 13.2% hold.

Fanatics Sportsbook saw a revenue of $21.1 million in July, marking a 129% increase from June, with over $221.6 million in wagers, just shy of a double-digit hold. BetMGM recorded an 11.3% hold on a $138.3 million handle, generating $15.6 million in revenue.

Caesars achieved a 9.3% hold on $122.6 million in wagers, resulting in $11.4 million in revenue. BetRivers accepted $40 million in bets with an 8.8% hold, while theScore Bet and Bally Bet each reported single-digit win rates, falling short of their June revenue totals.
