Netflix has announced an upcoming eight-episode series titled 'The Roman', which will delve into the modern casino industry of Las Vegas. Oscar Isaac is set to star in the lead role and will also serve as an executive producer for the project.
In the series, Isaac will portray Robert 'Bobby' Red Redman, the president of the city's leading hotel-casino. His character is willing to take risks to maintain leadership and expand influence in the competitive landscape of Las Vegas.
Joining Isaac is Alec Baldwin, who will play Paul Primo Clark, a long-time chairman of the organization and a father figure to the main character. David Costabile will take on the role of Bill Saverick, the head of a rival casino and a longtime acquaintance of Redman. Betty Gilpin will portray Bobby's wife, Marla Blake, a brilliant lawyer with extensive connections, who is well aware of the darker side of Vegas.
The creators, showrunners, and executive producers of the series are Brian Koppelman and David Levien, known for their work on the poker thriller Rounders and Ocean's Thirteen, as well as for creating the series Billions. Martin Scorsese, director of the 1995 film Casino, is also an executive producer.
The first two episodes will be directed by J.C. Chandor, who has previously collaborated with Isaac on A Most Violent Year and Triple Frontier. Production for the series has just begun, and the premiere date is yet to be announced.
