The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has revealed its decision to acquire an additional 100 free Gamban licenses for residents, responding to the overwhelming interest in the online gambling blocking software that was introduced last month.
Shortly after the launch of the program, over 80 of the initial 100 licenses were claimed, prompting the agency to broaden access to this essential gambling-blocking tool.
Gamban is a software solution designed to prevent access to gambling websites and applications across various devices and operating systems, including Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. Its robust design makes it challenging to uninstall, and it allows users to block gambling content on an unlimited number of household devices with a single license.
Henry Williams, the Executive Director of the MGCB, stated, "The feedback from Michigan residents during the first two weeks of this program has surpassed our expectations, highlighting a real need within our communities. We acted swiftly to secure an additional 100 licenses to ensure that no resident seeking this support is turned away. Michigan is dedicated to providing the strongest safeguards as we expand legal gaming in our state."
The MGCB initially collaborated with Gamban in April, offering free licenses that range from one to five years for Michigan residents without necessitating enrollment in a self-exclusion program. This initiative aims to eliminate financial obstacles for individuals seeking resources to mitigate gambling-related issues.
The software effectively blocks access to a variety of gambling platforms, including online casinos, sports betting sites, poker, slots, social casinos, cryptocurrency gambling, and NFT-based wagering. It also covers unregulated and offshore gambling websites.
Williams added, "The enthusiastic response to this program indicates that residents are looking for accessible, device-level support — and we are committed to providing it. These additional licenses mean that more Michigan residents can regain control at no cost."
Residents of Michigan can obtain a free Gamban license by visiting the designated website, selecting the free license option, and creating a Gamban account. Following registration, they can download and install Gamban on all personal devices, with the capability to cover an unlimited number of household devices. Live technical support is also available to assist users with the installation process.
This Gamban initiative is part of the MGCB’s broader commitment to responsible gaming, which includes the Responsible Gaming Database for online self-exclusion, the Disassociated Persons List for Detroit casinos, and the “Don’t Regret the Bet” public awareness campaign.
