March Madness Thrives in Vegas Despite Nationwide Sports Betting

The NCAA Tournament's opening weekend is a highlight for sports enthusiasts across the country. Many fans take time off work to cheer for their favorite teams, whether from home or by traveling to support their schools.

However, a significant number of fans choose to head to Las Vegas to experience the excitement of the first and second rounds. While sports betting has expanded to 39 states, it still cannot replicate the unique atmosphere that Las Vegas offers.

Derek Stevens, CEO of Circa, shared insights with Gambling Insider about the significance of March Madness for Las Vegas and the growth of Circa Sports' online betting operations, including in Missouri.

Stevens emphasized that the demand for March Madness in Las Vegas remains exceptionally high, stating, “This week, we expect to be completely sold out for the first round of the tournament.” He noted a cultural shift where fans enjoy gathering with friends to watch the games, a trend that shows no signs of diminishing.

“Even with the legalization of sports betting in many states, nothing compares to the experience of being in Las Vegas with friends and family during March Madness,” he added. The excitement of the tournament is what draws people to the city, regardless of which teams make it to the finals.

Reflecting on past events, Stevens declared last year as the most successful March Madness for Circa, noting a consistent growth trend since 2012. “Every year has been bigger than the last,” he remarked, expressing optimism for this year's event.

When asked about his pick for this year, Stevens mentioned his support for the University of Michigan. He also discussed the recent launch of sports betting in Missouri, stating that Circa is progressing as planned and has seen profitability from the start.

Circa's promotional efforts, such as the $250,000 “Win Derek’s Wallet” campaign in Missouri, have successfully attracted new customers, and Stevens is eager to implement similar initiatives in other states.
