The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has published a recommended framework for the use of artificial intelligence in the gambling sector, known as the AI Gaming Charter. This initiative is touted as one of the first of its kind in Europe.
The document does not alter existing EU legislation regarding AI and data protection. Instead, it applies to all AI systems used by licensees, regardless of their risk category.
Licensees are advised to create a registry of their AI systems, define their role in the supply chain, and categorize the risk level of each system according to the European AI regulation. Furthermore, they should appoint responsible personnel from compliance, data, or technical functions to oversee the implementation of the principles outlined in the document.
Recommendations also include notifying the MGA of significant changes in AI systems, including their application in new scenarios such as anti-fraud measures or responsible gaming practices.
