The AGEM Index, which tracks gaming-related stocks, experienced an increase in May 2026, coinciding with a positive performance in U.S. equity markets.
In May, the AGEM Index rose by 54.38 points, reaching a total of 1,578.22, reflecting a 3.6% increase compared to the previous month. However, it is important to note that the index is still down 9.4% year-over-year, translating to a decrease of 162.96 points.
This monthly growth was bolstered by positive performances from most companies within the index. Out of the nine companies tracked by the AGEM Index, seven saw their stock prices rise in May, contributing six positive and three negative impacts on the overall index.
Aristocrat Leisure Limited was the standout performer, contributing the most to the index with a stock price increase of 6%, which added 37.65 points. Agilysys also had a noteworthy impact, as its stock surged by 35.1%, contributing an additional 26.28 points.
On the downside, Konami Corp. was the largest negative contributor for the month. Despite a slight stock price increase of 0.2%, the depreciation of the Japanese yen led to a loss of 6.56 points for the AGEM Index.
The overall rise in the AGEM Index mirrored the performance of major U.S. stock indices, all of which saw gains from the previous month. The NASDAQ climbed by 8.4%, the S&P 500 increased by 5.1%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 2.8%.
The Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers is responsible for compiling the AGEM Index, which monitors nine global gaming suppliers. Five of these companies are based in the U.S. and are traded on the NYSE, Nasdaq, or OTC markets, while three are listed on the Australian exchange and one on the Tokyo exchange.
The AGEM Index is calculated using the end-of-month stock prices for each company, adjusted for dividends and stock splits, and is weighted based on estimated market capitalization. For companies listed on foreign exchanges, their market capitalizations are converted to U.S. dollar equivalents at month-end for accurate comparison.
Since its inception in January 2005, the AGEM Index has been based on a value of 100 points. Adjustments to company stock prices and index contributions may occur due to stock splits, mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate activities.
