In Hong Kong, police have dismantled an underground online betting network controlled by a triad in light of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. A total of 150 individuals were arrested during raids on eight locations, which included four money laundering and processing centers, three advertising and administrative centers, and one player recruitment point.
More than 600 officers participated in the operation, seizing over $128,000 in cash, valuables exceeding $538,000, 20 computers and tablets, as well as 293 mobile phones.
According to investigators, since July 2025, the network acted as an intermediary for offshore iGaming operators in the local market, processing bets totaling over $41 million through front accounts. Among those arrested were 86 players, 33 owners of drop accounts, and 31 suspected members of the group. Notably, 18 of the detainees have reported ties to triads, according to police.
