The Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has mandated internet service providers to block the prediction market platform Polymarket as of May 21. In the coming days, a similar order will be issued for the platform Kalshi, according to ThePrint citing an anonymous source within the ministry.
Both platforms continued to accept Indian users despite the enforcement of the PROGA law, which banned the iGaming segment starting May 1. Internet providers that fail to comply with the blocking order face penalties of up to 7 years in prison and fines.
As reported by CoinDesk, at the time of publication, the Polymarket website was already inaccessible to Indian users, while the Kalshi site remains operational.
