HBO is set to produce a new series titled Advantage Player, based on the memoirs of American Gina Fiore. For 24 years, Fiore made a living by counting cards at blackjack tables in casinos around the world.
According to Deadline, her methods did not violate American laws. However, Fiore recounts that she and her team of card counters faced constant threats of chases, assaults, and arrests from casino staff and police.
The memoirs are scheduled for release in October, but HBO has already ordered the adaptation. Riley Keough, known for her role in the series Daisy Jones & The Six, will play the lead role.
The official description reveals that the protagonist discovers a way to consistently beat the casinos and becomes part of a community of players who believe that the only way to outsmart the system is to outplay its creators.
Will Graham, who worked with Keough on Daisy Jones & The Six—for which both received Emmy nominations—will serve as the writer and showrunner. Keough, Graham, and Fiore will also be among the executive producers. The premiere date has yet to be announced.
