A district court in Gwangju, South Korea, has sentenced two high school students to prison for stealing a gold bracelet worth $20,200 from a jewelry store in the Gwangsan-gu area in January 2026.

The 19-year-old defendant, posing as a customer, stole the bracelet, while his 17-year-old accomplice, lacking a driver's license, helped him flee the crime scene. According to court reports, the pair committed the crime to pay off debts incurred from illegal online gambling.

The court sentenced the 19-year-old to six months in prison, while the 17-year-old received an indefinite term of six months to one year under South Korean juvenile law.
