On May 4, Google Ads updated its Gambling and Games policy in Alberta, Canada, allowing advertising for iGaming operators registered with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC). This change comes as the province prepares to launch its regulated iGaming market.
Before the official launch of betting, operators can only run brand awareness campaigns with strict geo-targeting to Alberta. To initiate these campaigns, operators must provide proof of their AGLC registration application.
Once the market is live, standard Google Ads certification requirements will apply to operators.
The updated policy covers four verticals. Lotteries can only be offered by state operators or those with a federal-level license. Sports betting, online casinos, and fantasy sports operators must register with the provincial regulator and target their advertising solely within its territory.
