The author of the report suggests that these figures contradict predictions of explosive market growth due to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The January peak is attributed to the rescheduling of state championships and the Brazilian Serie A to the beginning of the year because of the World Cup taking place in the summer.
The figure of 30.9 million registrations was collected over 18 months, not just the half-year, making it not directly comparable to the 17.7 million players in H1 2025. According to the Brazilian Finance Minister, as of August 13, over 5 million Brazilians, including social benefit recipients, self-excluded players, and participants in debt restructuring programs, have lost access to betting with licensed operators.
