Fliff and Onyx Odds Apply for NFA Intermediary Status

In the United States, social sportsbooks Fliff and Onyx Odds, which operate under the sweepstake model, submitted applications to the National Futures Association (NFA) on August 12 for intermediary status between players and prediction market exchanges. This status would allow them to offer contracts on their platforms, according to the organization's registry. Both applications are currently under review.

Operators like FanDuel and Fanatics, as well as fantasy services Underdog, Sleeper, and PrizePicks, already hold this status. Additionally, broker Robinhood has also been granted this intermediary status. Over the past two years, authorities in more than a dozen states have restricted or banned the dual-currency model, leading to the emergence of sweepstake operators such as Betr, MyPrize, Novig, and ProphetX in the prediction markets. Notably, the latter two received exchange status from the CFTC regulator in June.
