Faker Appointed Honorary Police Officer in Anti-Gambling Campaign

On July 22, the police in South Korea appointed professional esports player Lee Sang-hyeok, known as Faker, as an honorary police officer and ambassador for a campaign against teenage gambling.

Faker, a current player for T1 and a six-time world champion in League of Legends, will feature in videos and appear on posters encouraging teenagers to report their involvement in online gambling to the police.

The campaign will run until August 31, and as of July 16, it has already received 806 reports. The police are directing the teenagers who come forward to consultations and treatment, promising to reduce penalties based on remorse and completion of rehabilitation. Those who finish the treatment program will receive a jersey signed by the player.
