On May 22, the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kemkomdigi) officially blocked the prediction market platform Polymarket. This action is part of a broader effort to regulate online gambling activities in the country.
The regulator is also monitoring all social media accounts associated with Polymarket for potential future blockages. According to the head of the Digital Space Oversight Department, any websites that accept monetary bets on the outcomes of events are classified as iGaming operators. This includes prediction market platforms that utilize blockchain technology and settle transactions in crypto-assets.
