New Jersey Online Gaming Revenue Up 4.4% in August 2023

In August 2023, New Jersey's online gaming revenue experienced a year-on-year increase of 4.4%, reaching $259.3 million. However, the revenue from the nine casino hotels in Atlantic City saw a decline of 5.5%, totaling $294.9 million, as reported by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) on September 16.

Although the August figures marked a decrease of 6.4% from the record high of $276.9 million in July, it still represented the 11th consecutive month where online casino revenue surpassed the $250 million threshold.

For the first eight months of the year, internet gaming revenue surged by 13.2%, amounting to $2.13 billion, compared to $1.88 billion during the same period in 2022. This sector contributed $57.7 million in taxes for August and a total of $473.4 million year-to-date.

In contrast, the nine Atlantic City casinos reported $294.9 million in winnings for August, down from $311.9 million the previous year. However, they still saw a year-to-date increase of 1.8%, totaling $2.01 billion.

Sports betting revenue faced a significant drop of 25%, falling to $61.4 million from $81.9 million in August 2022. The DGE attributed this decline mainly to a later start for some sports, including college football, compared to the previous year, along with a lower overall win percentage.

Year-to-date, sports wagering revenue decreased by 5.3%, totaling $671.4 million.

Overall, New Jersey's total gaming revenue from casinos, racetracks, and their partners declined by 4.1% in August, amounting to $615.7 million. However, for the first eight months of the year, total gaming revenue rose by 5.4%, reaching $4.81 billion, up from $4.57 billion.

In August, total gross revenue taxes amounted to $81.5 million, with a cumulative total of $674.2 million through August.

FanDuel Casino maintained its position as the top online casino operator in August, generating $56.7 million in revenue, a slight decrease of 0.7% year-on-year. DraftKings followed in second place with $43.5 million, down 7.5%, while BetMGM secured third place with $35.1 million, reflecting a 7.8% increase.

Fanatics emerged as one of the fastest-growing established operators, with its August revenue climbing by 30.7% to $13.1 million, and its year-to-date revenue more than doubling to $106.4 million, a remarkable increase of 100.6% compared to the same period last year.

Golden Nugget's online casino reported $11.3 million in revenue, up 28.8%, while BetRivers saw a 28.1% increase to $10.7 million. Bet365's revenue surged by 46.6% to $3.4 million, and Resorts Casino's revenue increased by 47.6% to $2.6 million.

Newer brands affiliated with Caesars also posted their August revenues, with Betinia earning $1.1 million, Vegas Club Casino generating $875,415, and Ember Casino bringing in $591,981.
