Choctaw Casino & Resort in Pocola, Oklahoma, has unveiled an ambitious plan for a $140 million expansion and renovation aimed at enhancing its hotel, casino, and guest facilities significantly.
Originally opened in 1994 as a bingo hall, the property has evolved over three decades into a prominent entertainment hub for Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley. It currently boasts a hotel, a spacious casino floor, various dining options, and over 7,000 square feet dedicated to meetings and events.
Gary Batton, Chief of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, emphasized that this project will bolster the resort’s position as a key employer and economic catalyst in LeFlore County. He remarked, “Choctaw has long been a proud part of this region, growing alongside the community and contributing to its vitality and success.”
As the largest employer in LeFlore County and the second largest resort within the Choctaw Casinos & Resort portfolio, Choctaw – Pocola plays a crucial role in fostering economic development and opportunities in the area. Batton added, “This investment will allow us to welcome more guests while delivering an even higher level of hospitality and resort experience.”
The planned upgrades include a new seven-story hotel tower featuring 130 guest rooms, including premium suites, and a resort-style pool with private cabanas and an outdoor bar.
Additionally, the project will introduce a full-service spa centered on wellness and relaxation, alongside a 24-hour fitness center equipped with state-of-the-art exercise equipment. A new coffee and tea bar will serve specialty beverages and a diverse selection of teas.
The renovation plan also encompasses updates to 118 existing hotel rooms, enhancing furnishings, lighting, flooring, and bathroom amenities. The casino floor, registration areas, and restrooms will receive modern finishes and improved lighting.
Furthermore, amenities such as the poker room, off-track betting area, and rewards club will be relocated to upgraded spaces. Restaurants and bars throughout the resort will also undergo renovations and rebranding, featuring enhanced menus and craft cocktails.
General Manager Christy Chaser expressed excitement about the expansion and renovation project, stating, “This investment not only transforms our property by doubling our hotel capacity and introducing contemporary, elevated amenities, but also reflects our ongoing commitment to the people and businesses here.”
The development will be executed in collaboration with Tutor Perini Construction and JCJ Architecture, with an official groundbreaking ceremony anticipated later this fall.
