The Santiago Appeals Court in Chile has approved a permanent mechanism for blocking websites of unlicensed iGaming operators via DNS. This mechanism involves lottery operators providing information about domains, subdomains, and redirects to the gambling regulator SCJ, which verifies their affiliation with online gambling activities.
Once verified, the telecom regulator Subtel sends the confirmed list to communication providers for subsequent blocking. New domains can be added to the blocked list without the need for a repeated court process.
The Association of Online Operators (aPAL), which includes brands like Latamwin, Juegaenlinea, Betsson, and Coolbet, has criticized the court's decision. The association argues that the court is overstepping its authority, granting SCJ powers beyond those stipulated by law, and that the mechanism raises questions about the principle of net neutrality.
