The Catawba Indian Nation has announced plans to construct two additional casinos in North Carolina, as stated by Chief Brian Harris during the inauguration of the first phase of the $1.2 billion Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort.
Addressing around 500 tribal members and attendees at the ribbon-cutting event, Harris emphasized the tribe's dedication to enhancing its gaming presence throughout the state, according to the Charlotte Observer.
“We have two more casinos to build in this state, and we are determined to make it happen,” he declared. Although the tribe has pinpointed potential locations for these new casinos, Harris chose not to disclose the details, citing ongoing discussions.
“I can’t share that information right now,” Harris mentioned to The Charlotte Observer post-ceremony. “It’s all part of the negotiation process. We have identified the sites and are currently in preliminary talks. Once we finalize the agreements, we will make an official announcement.”
The recently launched initial casino, situated off Interstate 85 at Exit 5, approximately 35 miles west of Charlotte, boasts 1,350 slot machines, 36 electronic table games, 22 traditional table games, a 68-seat restaurant, an 18-seat bar, sports betting kiosks, and a player rewards desk. This facility operates around the clock, seven days a week.
The full Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort is anticipated to be completed by spring 2027. Upon completion, the resort will feature 4,300 slot machines, 100 live table games, 11 tribally owned restaurants, 11 bars, and a 24-story hotel with 385 guest rooms.
Officials from the tribe indicated that the finished resort is projected to generate approximately 2,200 permanent jobs, marking it as one of the most significant economic development initiatives in the area.
During the opening of the first phase of the $1.25 billion Catawba Two Kings Casino, hundreds gathered along Kings Mountain Boulevard. This new facility replaces the temporary casino that was established on the same site in July 2021.
