In Australia, a worker from the fishing industry association Salmon Tasmania has embezzled over $155,000 from his employer to finance his gambling addiction. The Supreme Court of Tasmania in Hobart sentenced Christopher Brown, who pleaded guilty to 20 counts, including 15 counts of fraud, to six months in prison, along with an additional 18 months of probation.
Since the beginning of 2024, Brown had been working as an administrator in the company, handling payments to suppliers. The court established that he opened five personal bank accounts for the embezzlements and listed their details in payment documents. Furthermore, he failed to forward invoices to accountants from the consulting firm KPMG. The money he obtained was immediately transferred to the gaming accounts of iGaming operators Sportsbet, Bet365, and Neds. Four months after his hiring, Brown confessed to the thefts to the company's CEO.
