Caesars Sportsbook has agreed to pay a fine of $251,250 and relinquish profits amounting to $45,465 to resolve issues related to responsible gambling regulations in New Jersey.
This settlement, reached with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), addresses multiple compliance shortcomings, particularly concerning responsible gambling signage and self-exclusion processes.
The DGE pointed out that Caesars utilized signage that lacked the necessary responsible gambling messaging. New Jersey regulations mandate that such signage must include phrases like “Bet With Your Head, Not Over It,” along with the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline number.
Additionally, the regulator claimed that Caesars did not submit its daily self-exclusion list to the DGE as required.
Furthermore, Caesars provided a permanent self-exclusion option on its platform, contrary to New Jersey laws that stipulate players must request a lifetime self-exclusion in person.
The settlement also addressed claims that individuals who had self-excluded were permitted to place bets on other platforms.
In addition to the $251,250 penalty, Caesars has consented to forfeit $45,465 in profits.
The DGE cautioned that any further infractions could lead to more severe disciplinary measures, even for minor violations.
This case underscores the critical importance of adhering to New Jersey's responsible gambling standards, which encompass consumer disclosures, self-exclusion protocols, and reporting responsibilities.
