Boyd Gaming Reports Mixed Q2 2026 Results Amid Regional Variances

Boyd Gaming is navigating a varied regional landscape, yet its solid performance in the Midwest and South, along with a commitment to return $150 million quarterly to shareholders, keeps investor confidence intact.

After the market closed on Thursday, Boyd Gaming (BYD) unveiled its financial results for the second quarter of 2026. The report, while mixed, showcased the company's geographical diversification as a stabilizing factor.

Although the casino operator slightly fell short of Wall Street's revenue expectations, it managed to achieve an earnings beat through effective operational efficiency and a comprehensive capital investment strategy.

For the quarter ending June 30, Boyd Gaming recorded net revenues of $1.03 billion, which remained relatively unchanged from the previous year but was approximately 1.3% below the anticipated $1.048 billion. This follows a mixed performance in the first quarter of 2026.

Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) reached $1.93, surpassing the analyst consensus of $1.89. The company also reported adjusted EBITDAR of $350.5 million, reflecting a 2.1% decrease from $357.9 million in Q2 2025.

On a GAAP basis, net income stood at $131.2 million, or $1.75 per diluted share, down from $151.5 million ($1.84 per share) in the same quarter last year.

Operating margins for properties remained stable at a strong 40%, showcasing management's focus on cost control despite inflationary challenges and ongoing construction disruptions.

Contrasting Regional Performances: Midwest Gains vs. Las Vegas Declines

The narrative of Boyd's second-quarter earnings highlights a stark contrast between its successful regional properties and ongoing challenges in its Las Vegas operations.

The Midwest and South segment emerged as the standout performer, generating revenues of $556.9 million, marking a 3.1% year-over-year increase. Adjusted EBITDAR for this segment reached $208.7 million, up 3.6% from the previous year, supported by an increase in property margins to nearly 38%.

Management attributed this success to strong demand from both core and retail players, alongside favorable returns from recent investments in food and beverage operations.

Conversely, the Las Vegas Locals segment, which includes nine properties catering to regional residents, showed signs of decline, generating $225.9 million in revenue compared to $229.1 million in Q2 2025. Adjusted EBITDAR also fell from $112.7 million to $106.4 million.

This decline was localized, largely due to persistent weakness in the destination business at the Orleans property and intentional disruptions related to construction at the Suncoast, where a significant renovation of the casino floor is ongoing.

Downtown Las Vegas reflected similar trends, with revenue decreasing to $52.1 million from $55.3 million in the same period last year, and adjusted EBITDAR falling to $16.9 million from $19.4 million.

Support from Online and Managed Operations

One of the most promising areas outside traditional regional gaming was Boyd's auxiliary operations. The Managed & Other segment experienced an 18.1% increase in EBITDAR, reaching $30.7 million on revenues of $41.3 million.

This growth was driven by increased management fees from Sky River Casino, which recently completed the first phase of its expansion, including a larger casino floor and new parking facilities. A second phase, featuring a 300-room hotel, spa, and additional dining options, is expected to be completed by early 2028.

The Online segment generated $158.2 million in revenue and $10.6 million in EBITDAR, down from $173.1 million and $22.2 million a year ago. This decline primarily reflects revised terms in Boyd's market-access agreements with FanDuel, rather than any weakness in Boyd Interactive, the company's proprietary digital casino platform.

During the post-earnings conference call on Thursday evening, President and CEO Keith Smith, along with CFO Josh Hirsberg, provided crucial insights into the results, maintaining a confident yet realistic outlook for the remainder of 2026.

In the earnings release, Smith emphasized the company's ongoing commitment to growth and operational excellence.
